Kid Quick

Name:Katelyne 'Katie' Flynn

Height: 5'3" Weight: 110 lbs.

Born:June 21st 1981

Powers and Special Abilities:
Able to move at inhuman speeds. While she has shown the ability to run past the speed of sound (Mach 1.0), her theoretical top speed is unknown. Generates a field of frictionless energy that intensifies as she moves faster, protecting her from heat and impact at high speeds. Reflexes, reaction times, and all perceptions scale up with her velocity.

Katie Flynn was born into a legacy that stretches back to the second World War. Her grandfather was The Journeyman, one of the two great speedsters of that era, and his daughter, Celerity, married Speed, another running hero of the 70’s. Speed and Celerity were the most well-known, respected and beloved super-speedsters of their time. When the third roster of the League of Seven was forming, Virtue came to his two friends immediately to offer them membership. Only a few years later, they had a daughter.

Katie grew up in a world of super-heroics, globe-trotting adventures and celebrity. It was important to her parents that she stay grounded, though, and their own powers allowed them to live wherever they wanted and still cross the globe to reach anywhere on Earth in little time. Their simple home in Madison City, Pennsylvania was a place of warmth and normalcy, and Katie could live her life as any other anonymous little girl. Granted, she shared a tutor with the other children of the League (including Telepath and Motherboard) and spent as much time in exotic locales as she did in the northeast US, but she never thought anything of that.

She was 10 when the League of Seven officially disbanded. Speed and Celerity settled back down, and decided that, although she was steadfastly determined to be a superhero, they wanted their daughter to be able to have as normal a life as she wanted. They would train her and allow her to join them when she was ready, but she wouldn’t miss out on the experiences of just being a kid. For the first time in her life, Katie started going to public school. This was odd for her, and even more so when she began working with her parents in an official ‘sidekick’ capacity as Kid Quick. She felt strangely isolated among her classmates, even though she was something of a celebrity at school as the ‘superhero girl.’ Everybody wanted to be around her, but nobody wanted to get to know who she really was. She was at once both the most popular kid in school and virtually friendless.

She wasn’t too phased by this. Katie was always a very friendly girl, and got along well with anybody who wanted to hang around her, and she even came to enjoy the pseudo-celebrity she had at school, but her real joy in her life came from being Kid Quick. Despite the oddness of her day-to-day, she was very happy and excited about her life.

Everything changed on April 18th, 1994. While she was standing side-by-side with her parents on the floor of the United Nations, celebrating the first anniversary of the end of the Cold War, a Unique named Kiloton detonated himself. Her parents were split up, and her father rushed Katie to safety, but her mother was lost in the New York Disaster.

After Celerity died, Speed fell into a deep and long depression. For a time, he didn’t want to run anymore. He would spend his days waiting to die; wanting to be with his wife more than he wanted to live. It took almost a year and the love and help of his daughter to bring Speed back from despair. The world needed him, now, and what was more important - Katie needed him.

Speed was back, and practically overnight became perhaps the most valued hero of the world, zipping from country to country and bringing aid and support wherever he could. Kid Quick would fight alongside her father, continuing her training and doing her best to fill her mom’s shoes. But as fantastic as it was to have her dad back, it wasn’t the same. As glad as she was to have her dad back, and as happy as she was at his side, she knew the time was coming that she would need a new direction.

Her new direction came in the form of an old friend - Hope Sage; the heroine called Telepath - who Katie had assumed was as good as dead, since she’d been missing since the New York Disaster. Telepath asked to be a part of a new team she and Motherboard were putting together made up of other young heroes like them. Kid Quick knew at that moment, that this was what she was looking for. She jumped at the chance to be a part of the team with her trademark enthusiasm and excitement.

Kid Quick revels in the feeling of having real friends again, and feels like she’s making a real difference as they work to protect Madison City. She is growing into her own, and Speed, though he worries, as fathers will do, is nonetheless deeply proud of his little girl.
