Sue and John Sage [Uniques: Kinetic and Mentor] had their first child at a very dark time in their lives. Her birth came to represent their hopefulness for growth and change to come. They named her Hope to mark their optimism.

Soon after, Kinetic and Mentor became the leaders of the global super-team, the League of Seven. Hope and, later, her adopted sister Conscience, grew up surrounded by the best and brightest Uniques in the world. Each year was spent traveling from country to country, learning and training with experts in both normal schooling and the skills necessary to become heroes, themselves.

At age 13, Hope joined her parents in their work, taking on the identity of Telepath. She served with them for two years, during which time the cold war escalated to frightful proportions. The United States and the Soviet Union each had a large cadre of Uniques that helped bolster their nations, serving as both tools of economic growth and living weapons in the ever-expanding conflict. By early April of 1993, both countries stood at the brink of all-out warfare. Kinetic and Mentor, along with many others in the political and Unique communities, were able to narrowly halt the coming nuclear holocaust.

By the time her parents gave the keynote speech at the UN on the first Remembrance Day, April 18th 1994, Telepath had begun to feel the desire to step out from her parents’ shadow and find a way to define herself. The tragedy that struck, that day of the New York Disaster, would force her into the spotlight in the worst way possible.

Her parents were among those lost in the New York Disaster, and she fell into a coma that lasted two years. When she awoke, it was into a less friendly, less hopeful world. She decided to forge ahead, starting a team of her own that would carry on her parents’ legacy while also fashioning a place all their own in this new world.

Telepath, despite her unconventional upbringing, is a fairly well adjusted and normal teenager. She is confident, but the loss of her parents is a heavy weight on her shoulders. Trying to make her way into adulthood at an accelerated rate, making up for the years she has lost, she is trying to prove to her parents, herself and the world at large that she is capable of being her own person and the hero she always wanted to be.
